Introducing RCRDSHP Studio: A Makerspace for Music Experiences in web3
First artist-fan collaboration and NFT drop led by Disco Fries and Lena Leon
Far from the big tech hype and commercial bluster surrounding NFTs and web3, thousands of projects and collectives are quietly shaping new music communities via decentralized tech. These grassroots, often fan-driven efforts blend experiences, collaboration, collective creation and investment with ever-evolving creativity.
RCRDSHP wants more of these experiments to flourish. To make this happen, the web3 music platform has launched RCRDSHP Studio, a home base that provides the tools for music lovers and artists to experiment together with all that web3 offers.
RCRDSHP Studio gives music fans a base and the tools to play around with new web3 experiences, from collectively creating something to running a remix contest to supporting a cause that matters. These experiences take place primarily on Discord and Twitch, NFTs, and the legacy music business to build a bridge to music’s web3 future. It’s part of RCRDSHP’s ongoing mission to find new ways to assert music’s value and create sustainable artist livelihoods.
To launch Studio, RCRDSHP teamed up with Disco Fries, the New York-based dance music powerhouse, and their fans. Together, 250 fans, the producer duo, and one of their favorite vocalists, Lena Leon, created a new track during a two-hour live session, voting on what elements sounded best. After mastering, the track and related media will be dropped as an NFT, with all participating fans getting credit on the NFT. Each participant, as well as the artists, will get NFTs they can treasure or sell, a unique collectible that honors a unique co-creation experience. The closing party for this first RCRDSHP Studio-related drop will stream on Twitch and YouTube on February 17.
Studio is the next logical step for RCRDSHP, a home for music that sees NFTs as the means, not the ends, to unlocking music’s value and meaning. “NFTs just don’t make sense to many fans. One reason is because they don’t really do much so far and don’t offer fans much value,” explains RCRDSHP Co-Founder and CEO Obie Fernandez. “But making something together and then having a collectible that lets you listen to the track and show the world you were a part of something — that’s valuable to fans. When done right, NFTs can link us to real-life experiences and connect online communities in new, very tangible ways that are creative and exciting.” To do things right, RCRDSHP mints NFTs on the energy-efficient Flow blockchain, making them equivalent to a credit card transaction in terms of carbon emissions.
The experience proved valuable to the artists as well, changing up the often lonely work of in-studio production and writing by bringing a newfound collective energy to music making. “It was honestly the most unique experience I’ve ever had in the studio. The concept of getting real-time feedback from fans is something I had never thought of before this opportunity came together with RCRDSHP,” says Danny Boselovic of Disco Fries. “Some of their choices surprised me but ultimately I think the song really was elevated by their participation.”
“This has proven to me how important it is to share your process along the way, and there’s nothing better than sharing the thing you love the most: creating music with the people who love listening,” reflects singer Lena Leon. “I’m grateful that RCRDSHP gave us the opportunity to do this!”
“I can’t believe it came together as seamlessly as it did. The RCRDSHP community was more than ready for it and had a ton of great ideas,” notes Disco Fries’ Nick Ditri. “Being the first to do a concept like this in web3 was something super special for us to say the least, and it really showed the power of where the future of music creation is headed.”

About Disco Fries
American duo Disco Fries have become a staple in modern dance music by walking the sonic tightrope between mainstream and club-stream. From the dorm rooms at Berklee College of Music to the stage at EDC Las Vegas, Nick Ditri and Danny Boselovic have not only blurred genres with their signature blown-out basslines and classically driven melodies but have remained best friends throughout the journey. From the moment Nick and Danny looked at a plate of “Disco Fries” and realized they had just discovered their brand, their music has been championed by some of the biggest names in dance: from artists like Kaskade, Diplo, Steve Aoki, and Hardwell to popular media outlets such as Billboard, MTV, Rolling Stone and Dancing Astronaut.
With over a million monthly listeners across streaming services, the Fries are always looking to push themselves even further. Their latest venture FinishMyTrack.com capitalizes on what the Disco Fries are most known for, finishing records. Helping both established and up and comers take their songs from 70% to retail ready, the Disco Fries launched the world's first "finishing house", offering services from additional production to track assessment. In addition, they have teamed up with SonyATV for a joint publishing venture and invested in e-sports organizations such as FaZe Clan and X-Set and as a result have been featured on Yahoo News and Business Insider.
"We're always looking to explore new sounds and ways to expand our music to new touchpoints. We want to keep making music that we enjoy sharing with people that enjoy hearing it. The party never ends for us.”
